A Headline A Month - 2016 Reflection

frost on tree branches against blue sky
It´s nearing the end of the year (why does it always sound crazy to say that?!) which means it´s time to reflect on what has happened in the past 12 months. Honestly, I feel like the year flew by but at the same time January feels so far away. I don´t even know what I did in January before I checked my calendar. It´s like in those videos that speed up every time you say "end of the month". I thought I´d spice up my reflection of 2016 and sum up every month with a headline that perfectly describes what happened to me.

Christmas Market Inspiration: Tollwood Winterfestival

I think I´ve pretty much established my love for Christmas markets by now. Ever since I moved down to Bavaria for my studies I´ve made it a little tradition to go to Munich during the festive season. In Munich there is a lovely market that streams through the whole city (which you can see in my Munich Christmas Market 2014 and Munich Christmas Market 2015 posts) but also there is the Tollwood Winterfestival which I always list as one of my favourite Christmas markets. This year I took my parents with me and I´m happy to say they loved it just as much as I did.

Christmas Market Inspiration: Augsburg

As you know I love my Christmas markets. Living in Germany has its perk as there is a Christmas market in every city (no matter how small it is). I basically have to restrain myself from going to every single one around here. This year my friends and I decided to visit one that is on many lists of the most beautiful German Christmas markets. So on Sunday we took the train and strolled around the Christmas market in Augsburg.

A Christmas Walk

view of Ulm with the Münster and a few branches
2016 is the year in which I realized I actually really like taking walks (unless they involve me climbing up a hill). We´ve been treated to such a mild year and even though it is getting really cold now I still really like my walks. There´s something so special about morning walks in winter! When the frost (or snow) is still nestled on the ground and branches; the sun up in the sky but not yet strong enough to melt the ice away; rarely any people coming your way; your breath being visible in front of your eyes; Jack Frost nibbling on your nose. So come on this little Christmas walk with me.

Christmas Market Inspiration: DIY

Handmade Cinnamon Soaps wrapped in white-and-red
Whenever I´m lost for someone´s Christmas gift I always go around my local Christmas market and browse the stalls. There are always so many amazing handmade things on offer. I´m also very much a fan of personal gifts. When my sister and I were younger our Mom would help us create the most amazing handmade gifts for our family. One year we made cookies and decorated the jars or another year we crafted personalized key rings. So how could I leave out Christmassy DIYs when bringing the spirit of Christmas into my own home?! All these Christmas DIYs could make great gifts for friends but also an easy yet meaningful gift for aunts, uncles and the likes.

Christmas Market Inspiration: Music

bauble decoration on Christmas market huts
In my opinion any good Christmas market has to have Christmas songs playing from speakers all day long. What better way is there to get everyone into the festive spirit?! Christmas music just makes me so happy. The songs are all easy to learn and sing along to and more often than not I get them stuck in my head all day. Also as I said, this is definitely the easiest way to get into the festive spirit. So I took to my trusty 3-year-old Christmas playlist that now features over 90 songs and I chose my 22 favourite songs. These songs should not be missing at any Christmas party!

Christmas Market Inspiration: Ulm

She could smell it from afar; the spices, the chocolate and the general smell of christmas. She could hear children cheering, people chattering and the slightest hint of Christmas music. A smile formed on her lips as she entered the Christmas market.

Christmas Market Inspiration: Food

Vegan Churros and Non-dairy Crepes with firelight
One thing I love about Christmas markets is all the food. It´s just so convenient and always so delicious. I probably spend way too much money on food in December (oops). Unfortunately, there´s only ever a small selection of food for me as I´m dairy intolerant. Our local Christmas market only has one vegetarian/vegan stall that is super expensive, so I mostly end up just eating fries and/or Bratwurst. Still food is such an important part of Christmas markets that I thought I´d turn two of my favourite snacks into non-dairy/vegan recipes. That way everyone can have a bit of Christmas at home. Also these make your home smell delicious!

Christmas Jumper Wishlist

Christmas Jumpers from Asos, Primark and Boohoo
I have never owned a Christmas jumper. Shocker, right? The closest I got to buying one was last year but then they didn´t have any of the jumpers I wanted in my size (maybe because I was a little late on the 20th, oops!). This year I´m pretty determined though. I want to spend all three Christmas days in a Christmas jumper, I don't care what the cost. Also I´m going to justify this by saying that Christmas jumpers are kind of an investment. You only wear them for a month per year so they´ll probably last me a good while (or until next year). I´ve gone into the depths of the internet & found nine jumpers that absolutely stole my heart.

Christmas Jumpers from Asos, Primark & Boohoo

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8 // 9

I´ve found the best selection of jumpers on Boohoo for sure. Everywhere else I kind of had to be lucky to find one I liked out of the few jumpers on offer. Choosing the right jumper is difficult because it´s meant to be tacky but not too tacky to be worn (if you know what I mean). I have ordered the Penguin Christmas jumper & the cream/white one in my Black Friday debacle with Boohoo (you can read it all on my Twitter) and I´m very excited for them to arrive at my door!

Do you have a favourite Christmas jumper? Or are you still looking for the perfect one like I am?

Christmas Market Inspiration: Drinks

Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine & Vegan Hot Chocolate
I´m a big lover of Christmas markets (as can be proven by my blog every December). I just love the atmosphere, the food, the smells, the little huts and that it means Christmas is finally near. However, there are a few downsides. Personally I don´t like the masses of (drunk) people, there is rarely any non-dairy food or drinks that I can enjoy and quite honestly, it´s always freezing cold. So I thought this year I´d bring the Christmas markets to my home. Over the next few weeks I´ll be sharing recipes & diy´s so that you can get the Christmas market atmosphere in the comfort of your own home. Today we´re starting off with drinks!

Beauty Spending Ban - 1 Month Update

Sleek Solstice Palette; Zoella Handcream; Urban Decay Vice Lipstick; Benefit Rollerlash Mascara; on autumnal background
So I´ve been on my Beauty Spending Ban for almost a month now. First off, this month has just flown by.  I feel like I´ve just gotten back to uni yesterday when in fact it´s been over five weeks now. Maybe that´s why  I´ve not struggled as much as I thought I would but more on that later. First, let´s discuss how I went about the month and if/what I actually bought.

I went into the month pretty naive. I knew I had stocked up on most of my beauty essentials and I thought I´d just not go into any drugstores and that was it. Well, let me say there´s definitely more temptation for beauty products around than you´d think. Being in the Bloggerverse is very dangerous as there´s always someone raving about a new product. Also watching tv is not helping as ads are the devil. However, after now almost one month of ignoring all my desires to go out and buy new beauty products I think I´ve built up some kind of barrier. At least it feels much easier for me now.

What I bought this month: 1 bottle of dry shampoo (€2,45)

Reasons why I´ve been tempted this month:
- Planning Christmas gifts for friends
- Walking along the window of a drugstore
- Ads

Reasons why I´ve resisted this month:
- stressful time/not much time to stroll around shops
- not going out of the house much
- watching Netflix instead of tv (no ads)
- It´s great to be able to put something on my Christmas wishlist
- seeing products getting emptier is actually fun

I must say so far I´ve really enjoyed this spending ban. I thought this would be much more complicated. Obviously the stress I´ve had recently also helped me a lot and my wish list is ever growing. Maybe once I´m used to this whole not spending much thing I might allow myself to buy a treat once in a while. I will say that this month I have noticed that I did spent an unusual amount of money on food. Is this my kind of compensation technique?! I´m really interested to see if this will get easier or harder in December. I do have my advent calendar but I´ll also be actively going into a drugstore to buy some presents which sounds dangerous. I´m excited though!

Fantastic Beast & Where to Find Them - Review (spoiler-free)

movie ticket Fantastic Beasts; autumnal background
I love movies, I do with all of my heart. I have no more space in my shelves for more DVDs yet I can never refrain myself from buying more. However, somehow I never get around seeing them in the theatre. So imagine how thrilled I was when my friends decided to go see Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them. Harry Potter was my childhood; I just adore this magical world. Going out of the theatre I had so many thoughts that I wanted to share, so I´m skipping the post I had planned for today and instead am giving you a review of Fantastic Beasts. Also there´ll be almost no spoilers ahead!

A Whole New Look With GlassesShop.com

Clifford Wayfarer Glasses; GlassesShop.com; autumnal background
As you might have noticed I am wearing glasses. Me getting glasses was quite inevitable as both my parents also have very bad eyesight. It all started back in 2009 with my first pair of glasses. I was only supposed to wear them whenever I needed it but I quickly noticed that I really liked the look of them on my face (besides the better eyesight). Everyone who owns glasses knows what a pain it is to actually chose a pair and how expensive they are. So you can imagine my excitement when the lovely Catherine from GlassesShop.com reached out to me and offered me a pair of their glasses.

What Is Your Blog´s Brand?

Paperbacks Notebook on colorful leaves
When I did my internship I had the opportunity to create a few powerpoint slides for an upcoming seminar. This also meant a ton of research in the field of consumer psychology wish was really interesting. Especially this Ted Talk by Morgan Spurlock got me thinking. He has is personal brand (aka himself) defined at one point which I found so intriguing. So far I´d only seen my blog´s brand as being myself and I had never thought I could define it in a "classic" way. So I went and did a little research to find out my blog´s brand.

Autumn/Winter Essentials

Autumn Winter Essentials full look
The whole blogger community seemed especially excited for autumn to come this year. I was really excited too until I realised that also meant it was getting really cold really quick - why not read my Fall Fever post with all the reasons I love autumn? Also now that it´s November and we´ve crossed that magic threshold to Christmas I can´t resist listening to my Christmas playlist #notashamed. Winter is also definitely on its way which unfortunately means it´s only getting colder and darker. But don´t worry I have figured out a few ways to enjoy these seasons nonetheless and embrace their beauty. Today I´m sharing my autumn and winter essentials.

Beauty Spending Ban

I´ve never actually seen the film Shopaholic but with my behaviour lately I could easily play the main character. The amount of money I spent on beauty products (especially makeup) has gotten ridiculous. Even though I just got a job and therefore will not have to worry about money this just can´t go on the same way. I honestly own enough beauty products for at least three lives but instead of using products I already own I keep buying more and more. This. Has. To. Stop!

Five Favourite Neutral Palettes

I´m very much of a neutral girl. Whether it´s fashion or make up, you´ll probably see me rocking a very neutral look (& maybe a bold lip). When it comes to eyeshadows I barely own any shades that don´t fall into the neutral spectrum. Because I have green eyes I feel like these shades really enhance my eyes. In all honestly, I´m also not brave enough to wear bolder make up looks. In general, I barely own any single eyeshadows; I´m a fan of palettes instead. They just come in handy for traveling, all the shades go together well and they are just pretty to look at.

The Opposite of Loneliness

When I realized I was way behind on my Goodreads Reading Challenge for this year I thought I´d use the wider choice of bookshops in Cologne to find a new book. In store one book just immediately spoke to me. The Opposite of Loneliness is an inconspicuous looking book with its simple cover but something about the title intrigued me. Honestly, when people talk about the books that changed them I was always worried because I couldn´t put more than one book on my list. However, now I can at least list two because The Opposite of Loneliness is definitely a book that had a massive impact on my life.

Keep Me Calm

Or: My Experience with Progressive Muscle Relaxation

My mind is a crazy place. It never stops, there´s just always something to worry about. Hence, why I have anxiety. It was always like this and in my teens I had trouble falling asleep, so my Dad recommended Autogenous Training. Well, that was a big flop. I didn´t really believe in how it would work and my limbs just failed to feel heavy. Years later, my therapist taught me Progressive Muscle Relaxation and it has changed my life.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics - Worth the Hype?

This is finally a makeup party I´m not too late too. Well, maybe a little late as everyone is already raving about this palette. Sadly, I hat to wait one and a half weeks longer than everyone else to get this palette because that´s when the German release date was (living here is hard when it comes to beauty products!). Waiting was the hardest part for me. Imagine me not-so-patiently clicking my nails on the table ever since the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette was introduced in August. I was so excited when it finally arrived at my door about two weeks ago!

Little Habits to Improve Your Daily Life

As much as we like to think it, even people on Instagram don´t lead the perfect lives. It´s what everyone wants though, isn´t it? Getting up early, working out, eating well, having an exciting and productive day, going to bed early, repeat. Ah, how I wish my life would look like this! I´ve compiled a list of 10 little habits that can improve your daily life so that you´ll come a bit closer to the dream. I´ll definitely be using these in the upcoming months as I go back to uni soon and that always messes with my life a lot.

A Beginner´s Guide to Makeup

A few months back, Lily from Pint Sized Beauty blogged about her favourites for starting up a makeup collection. It made me think of the time I first tried out makeup when I was around 13. I learned everything then from my Mom who honestly is no beauty guru. I wish I had known about blogs and Youtube back then. Then I´d have known that yellow eyeshadow doesn´t look good on anyone, especially not if your foundation is more orange than the Blogger sign.

Cologne Photo Diary

I´ve spent the past eight weeks doing an internship in Cologne. "But why?" you might ask as Cologne is neither where I go to uni nor where my parents live. Well, that´s all a longer story but in very short: The only place that offered me the internship I need for my studies was the University of Cologne. Honestly, I´m so happy nobody else wanted me! I´ve had an amazing time, always felt really welcome and appreciated and was able to get a look into the real life of working in scientific research (which is highly interesting!). Also I got more than one chance to stroll around Cologne in beautiful weather and as the blogger I am, I took a ton of pictures I want to share with you.

Fall Fever

or: All The Reasons Why I Love Autumn

Thursday (aka today as I´m writing this) marks the calendric start of autumn. Fun fact, this is also the day of the Autumn Equinox meaning the sun passes over the equator and day and night are exactly the same length. Ever since the end of August there haven been Twitter chats, fashion trends and just general conversations that have made me so excited for autumn to finally come. I usually like to pride myself with being a pretty basic white girl, however when it comes to autumn I can´t be as basic as I want. PSLs are not vegan, candles give me headaches and I don´t have a bathtub. Can I get some pity, please? Still, I think there are so many more things in autumn that can be exciting. Here´s a list of some!

First Impression NYX Cosmetics

Ever since I bought my first NYX Soft Matte Cream last Christmas I´ve been dying to try out more of their products. Well guess what, NYX Cosmetics is now available in drugstores here in Germany. I honestly couldn´t be more excited! On the release day I was clawing at the door of my local dm before they even opened. I was basically the crazy girl at a Bieber concert. The NYX counter was also very packed with girls screaming at each other which made it feel even more like some kind of concert. Still I managed to grab a few things which I tried out over the past week.

I´ve just celebrated my third blogging anniversary (which is totally crazy, btw) and if I´ve learned one thing about us bloggers it´s that we are weird people. Honestly, we´d rather spend our friday night in a bath, listening to 90´s music and chatting with people we´ve never met on Twitter than going clubbing. Or maybe that´s just me... One thing we all have in common though are those little problems concerning blogging. You know, the things that basically control our lives and drive us mad every time. My phone has suffered more throws than it should have because of them.

Trying Primark Cosmetics Once Again

Whenever I go into Primark (which honestly isn´t that often) they seem to have released a whole bunch of new beauty products. As the make up addict that I am I obviously can´t resist. Most of the time I pay more for beauty products than for clothes (how is that even possible?!). I´m always up for trying new beauty products especially when you could find a super bargain. So on the hunt for some new bargains I walked out of Primark with a few new products in my bag.

Studying Psychology - Was it Worth it?

I was about 17 years old and really interested in everything my educational science teacher told us;  that´s when I made the decision to study Psychology. I was interested in Freud, Erikson and all their theories as well as human behavior in general, so Psychology was the closest thing I could study that wasn´t actually educational science. I´ve always been a late bloomer when it comes to life decisions. The subject of my studies has been no different. So was this kind of last minute decision the right one?

Please note that I can only tell this from the personal experience I´ve had with studying in Germany. In different countries or even at different universities the experiences might vary.

First Impression Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks

When Urban Decay announced their new range of lipstick I was excited like a little girl on Christmas. The Vice range includes 100 new and old shades in six different formulas. Oh, how I wish I had the money to try them all! Lucky for me, feel unique had a discount on lipsticks and the new Vice lipsticks available on the 20th of June (aka the exact release date). I just happened to order some beauty things either way, so I went ahead and chose two Vice lipsticks to try out.

Side Note: This post was supposed to go up at the start of July, it did not take over two months for me to try these lipsticks out, haha.

General Tips for Studying

My Twitter feed has been full of exams lately. It seems that everyone is in the midst of their exam period right now and my exams are coming up as well. As I was never properly studying in school I was kind of thrown into the deep end in my first semester at uni. Luckily, you can find a ton of tips for studying on the internet. Some of those I found really helpful like colour coding and scheduling, others didn´t work for me. After 1.5 years I think I´ve finally found my study rhythm. As everyone is different and has different preferences for studying I´ve made a list of general tips that will be useful for everyone.

Skincare For Acne-Prone Skin

I´m not going to lie. I don´t have perfect skin and honestly, I don´t think I´ll ever have. For a long time I envied people with flawless skin. Their make up always seemed so effortlessly beautiful. I´m still a bit jealous but I´ve come to terms with my own skin. I think it´s mostly due to the insane improvement in the past year. It´s still nowhere near flawless but compared to how it was it´s amazing!

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things

Okay, it feels totally weird to write up a list of my current favourites in the middle of the month. Normally, these kind of blogposts overflow the internet at the end/start of a month. I do really enjoy reading about all the products someone has thoroughly enjoyed as this always introduced me to great products. I´ve looked back on my old blogposts and found that the last "Favourites" I did were from December. *gasp* So I guess a round up of all the things I´ve been loving in the past five months is definitely necessary.

Hello, It´s Me...

Uhm, so I went off the internet for quite a while. I really wish I could say I´m sorry for it but honestly, I´m not. I needed some time to focus on my own well-being instead of putting more on my plate than I could handle.

Vegan Birthday Cake

Since I moved out two years ago I´ve been spending my birthdays away from home (because my semester always starts right before). It´s not the best but I don´t mind it that much expect for two things: not being around my family and no cake!!! Especially now with my dietary restrictions, I really can´t put the weight of baking something on my friends. So this year I´ve decided to bake myself something instead and it´s delicious!

Trying Out Primark Brushes

My two blogposts about the Primark Beauty range (here and here) have recently been some of the most viewed blogposts on here. Personally I can never resist a good bargain but I´m also always wondering if those bargains are even worth their little money. So I totally understand why those blogposts have been so popular. On my Berlin trip I couldn´t not go into Primark and I discovered these new brushes that almost look like the rose gold Zoeva brushes everyone raves about. Of course, I had to try them out then.

In His Shirt

I hate to admit it but I´ve become a person who loves wearing blouses. That´s the one thing I never wanted to wear when I was 15 years old. Even worse, lately I´ve gotten really into sturdier shirts with a slight androgynous cut! *gasp* It´s not that bad, I know. I could´ve gotten into drugs for all I know. It´s just still a bit cold outside and a shirt is definitely keeping me a bit warm, also I just love the simple patterns they come in.

Traveling With Anxiety

When I started this blog it was partly to share my passion of beauty and fashion but also partly to document my travels. Maybe you´ve noticed that there´s been a lack of travel posts here in the past year. That´s because I just haven´t traveled in almost a year which I honestly hate. The reason for all that being my anxiety and how much of a challenge traveling with anxiety really is. So instead of taking that challenge I just didn´t travel anymore. That´s so bad and totally the wrong choice, so for my trip to Berlin I came up with a list of things that would help me travel despite my anxiety.

All Those Little Things

It seems to have become a lifestyle blogger´s favourite type of post: lists of what makes them happy. I have to admit they´re one of my favourites too. I consider myself to be a pretty positive person and hearing what makes other people happy just makes me happy as well. However, I do have moments when I´m incredibly down and sad; some are caused by hormones, others, well, aren´t. Having lists of happy things can help so much in these situations. It´s a reminder of how much positivity your everyday life gives you when you just start looking. And that´s definitely better than watching another sappy old romantic comedy, don´t you think? So here come 50 little things that make me happy.*

* in no particular order

Cheeky Haul

With my skin getting better each week I´ve found myself putting more effort into my base. The days where I´m using bright lipstick to draw attention from my forehead are mostly gone for good. Currently I´m loving to experiment with different cheek products to see what really fits me and my style of make up. I still haven´t figured out how to properly contour my face but blush and highlighter are going amazingly! Hence why I´m extending my collection of those. So today I´m sharing with you a little cheeky haul (haha, got it?) of cheek products I´ve recently bought.

Berlin In Pictures

The first time I went to Berlin must´ve been when I was about 14 years old. I immediately fell in love. It was a class trip and despite my classmates being assholes, I had a great time. I´ve lived my whole life in a rather small town where I always felt a bit uncomfortable (mainly because everybody knows each other). I´ve been a big city girl from the start. I love the rush, the acceptance and the anonymity. Since my first trip in 2010 I´ve visited the city at least once a year. Last week has covered this year´s trip and I thought I´d show you my view of it.

It´s funny because technically I´m a tourist when I go to Berlin but in my heart I´m not. I like the sights it offers but I´m not wanting to go see them anymore unless I´m there anyway. As a wise man once said The single best thing to do in Paris, is to get lost.“ (Henry Morgan, Forever). Well, he´s talking about Paris but I think it counts for all cities. I do love just walking around. Berlin has a very special atmosphere where you´re not alone even if you´re the only one walking the street. The architecture is also gorgeous in sunshine. I´ve honestly had an amazing week! I spent a lot of time with friends, enjoyed and absorbed the rush and excitement of the city and I saw James Bay live again (he´s amazing, trust me!!). I couldn´t be happier about it all.

Thanks for having me Berlin, and hopefully see you soon!
