Fashion Frustrations

Easter has come and gone and we're truly into spring now. Well, I say that but the weather does what it wants, doesn't it? Ever since we took our first steps into spring I´ve been so excited to see all the spring fashion in the shops! I am still so overjoyed to see the pastel colours, flower patterns and stripes on the gorgeous, light textiles but going out shopping has just been super frustrating. I'm a pretty average sized girl but my pear shape has been ruining my shopping experience lately and here's why.

Why are all the tops so short?!

Even my sister who has the body of a supermodel is complaining that most tops right now have a really unflattering length. What do the designers want from cutting the tops right at the hips? Do they want us all to look big?!

Why Are All Jeans High-Waisted?!

I have a suspicion that this might be related to the top length but honestly, I can´t be the only person who doesn't love high-waisted jeans. Firstly, I find them to be quite uncomfortable. Then there's also the sizing problem - my thighs are at least one size bigger than my stomach, so they never sit right at one end! Also high-waisted jeans look super cute from the front but unless you have a really well-trained butt it will look like someone smashed a burger patty from the back (don't know where I got that simile from but it´s true!).

What is that weirdly stiff, silk-like material?

I'm very drawn to certain textiles. If something feels good to touch I'm so much more likely to actually grab it from a rack! Recently a lot of the clothes I´ve seen in shops look stunning but are made of a very weird and stiff material that has a silky sheen to it. Because it´s so stiff it always feels so uncomfortable to touch!

Big Thighs? Forget Cute Trousers!

I'm pear-shade which means that from my hips on ward I'm slightly bigger in comparison to my top half. Honestly, there was a time when I related hated this but I'm okay with it now and don't feel bothered by it that much. But seemingly all trouser trends right now hate me. I can't wear patterned trousers, super skinny jeans or any type of culotte without my legs looking like tree stumps!

Why Are All The Pretty Shirts Straight Cut?

Somehow tops are pretty straight cut right now - apparently we´re not allowed to show any shape anymore. For me my pear-shapedness  comes in the way here too! Because of the straight cut most beautiful shirts sit perfectly at my shoulders but then just hug and sit on my waist where they kind of hold up the rest of the material. It looks so weird!

Can we stop oversizing everything?

I get that oversized tops are super comfortable to wear? But it´s truly gotten to far! Most of the shirts I see in the shops right now are wider than they are long because their oversized and cropped. What even?! Can we just get back to normal sizes? I'm flattered when I buy a shirt in size 6 but it´s been long enough now!

Why are all the skirts cut short?

Why does ever single skirt have to be meant to be worn high-waisted and then is basically cut right under my bum? The only way not to flash people in the street is to barely move. What is going on with that? Who thought this would look cute?! We don't all have supermodel legs!!

Can I still wear a bra with that?

There are so many different and super cute tops out there but somehow many designers seem to forget that some people (*cough* me!) would like to wear some kind of bra underneath. I don't even have big boos, I just like them to feel supported and to not be scared of one of them falling out. What am I supposed to do with weird cut outs at the back or on the sides?!

Can I just live in sportswear?

With everyday fashion just giving me angry rashes and the most depressing moods I've recently discovered that many shops have completely upped their sportswear game. I don't know if it´s just because it´s spring now but I'm falling in love with so much sportswear lately.. maybe I´ll just become a fitness junkie from now on!

Why is everything so extra?

Where are the cute, everyday tops?! I don't need a thousand frills, pompoms or weird cutouts; a nice pattern will do sometimes! It´s almost like you can only wear anything anymore if you're a fashion blogger that totally knows how to do fashion. Well, guess what, I'm not and I´d like to look fairly normal in my everyday life.

I´ll never wear that, I´ll be cold!

I love spring and summer clothes but realistically I´ll spend the hottest days of the year inside studying for my exams and in spring we only get about 17° C maximum. Buying many of the items available in the spring and summer collections would just be a waste of money because I´m always cold! So I´d have to either hide the cute clothes under a few layers or I just won't get around to wearing it because it´s not hot enough yet (spoiler: it'll never be hot "enough"). Can you please just give me realistic clothes choices?!

Please tell me I'm not just overdramatic here. Are you having similar problems when clothes shopping? I've really been so excited about spring fashion but have come home disappointed after all of my recent trips. It´s honestly quite heartbreaking when you want to become a little more fashion forward but seriously cannot because you won't ever feel comfortable in what's in the shops right now. That, I think, is the most important part about fashion: Feeling comfortable! So I guess for this year I´ll survive spring and summer in my clothes from last year (some of which I absolutely adore, so it´s okay). Hopefully we'll leave many of the trends that frustrate me behind for next year though!

What has frustrated you lately about fashion? What is your favourite piece you bought for this spring?
