My Skincare Routine (Acne-prone Combination Skin)

After stripping down my skincare routine completely in my late teenage years to help with my acne (which essentially didn't really help) I was way too careful around skincare products. I was always taught that doing anything above the most basic steps would just make my acne blow up. It has just been in the past year that I've really upped my skincare game and been "brave" enough to  try out different products. I've already shown you two of my skincare saviours in a post last summer but since then I've added a lot of great products into my routine. I truly believe that my skin has never looked better - I only really get hormonal/stress spots anymore - and I think my new routine has been the reason!

Morning Routine

I start almost everyday with a shower to feel ready for the day. Even if I'm especially lazy that day and don't take a shower I make sure that I at least wash my face. As a first step I cleanse my face with the Forea Luna Play Plus and my beloved Lush 9 to 5 Cleanser - these two have truly my skin's lifesavers and are an amazing first step to a great skincare routine.

After I've patted my face dry I use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid to give my skin a deep hydration basis. I have very much combination skin and often with the oily parts I have the problem that they're so oily because they're dry. You know, the whole strip away the moisture so your skin feels like it needs to be even more oily problem. By giving my whole face a deep hydration with this Hyaluronic Acid I feel like my skin has been less oily and it balances out over the normal parts of my skin as well. I will say thought that you have to have a really light hand with applying this as when you use too much you can kind off rub it off again.

The Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist has been one of the first products I added to my skincare routine. I love the featherlight formula which also feels really refreshing on my skin. It just adds another layer of moisture to my skin and I feel like it really locks the moisture in my skin. As I have very oily skin in my T-Zone I always try to go for lightweight formulas when it comes to hydration. Plus, this is an amazing little refreshment during the day.

Lastly, I give my skin one last layer of moisture (can you tell my morning is all centred around moisturising my skin?!) with the Korres Wild Rose 24h Moisturiszing & Brightening Cream. It´s again  a very lightweight formula that quickly sinks into the skin which is important when I want to apply makeup afterwards. It definitely makes my makeup glide on smoothly afterwards. However, I find the smell to be kind of penetrating. Plus, I'm not sure it does anything special for my skin besides moisturise. This is definitely one product that works fine for now but once I've emptied it I will probably move on to another one.

Evening Routine

No matter if I've spent the day with makeup or if I was just chilling inside the house I always make sure to clean my skin in the evening. "Invisible dirt and oil are still dirt and oil" as a dermatologist has once told me. I start by removing my makeup (or the invisible dirt) with the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter from The Body Shop. This has been a staple in my routine for a long time now and was one of the products I used while having a stripped down skincare routine. This is a truly great product for removing my makeup - it even battles waterproof mascara with no effort and it has never stung in my eye!

Next up is the Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser to gently exfoliate my skin. I know that too much exfoliating is bad for your skin but my skin really seems to appreciate this one. It truly is super gentle and has only really big kernels in it. It is specifically targeted to combination skin and is supposed to help with oily, blemish-prone skin - sound familiar? I can't exactly tell how much of my now clear skin is down to this little babe but I know that it definitely cleans my skin so well! It definitely feels really clean afterwards.  I absolutely love it and I believe it has played a big role in keeping my skin being pretty much spot-free.

Just to make sure I've removed every last spot of makeup I use the The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Make-Up Remover on a cotton pad when I've been wearing makeup that day. After patting my face dry afterwards I use the The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner. Honestly, this product smells so bad but it works such wonders on my skin! I feel like my skin has had way less spots ever since introducing this toner into my routine. I'm not sure on the mattifying effect as I only use it in the evening but it surely closes up my pores and makes them feel taken care of.

As I'm such a big fan of the Tea Tree Range from The Body Shop I also tried out their Tea Tree Skin Clearing Daily Solution when it was on offer. I was surprised by how much I love this. My skin wasn't looking too shabby when I introduced this bad boy but now it has officially cleared and I think I have this gem to thank. It´s a super lightweight serum that is amazing at battling spots and imperfections. My skin has never looked this clear.

Lastly, I use a nourishing night cream to finish my evening routine off. Currently I'm still using up my Balea Feuchtigkeitspendende Tagescreme which I've used for years and absolutely love. It´s one of those simple products that I can always go back to when my skin has had any problem at all. However, Balea is in the gray zone of cruelty-free beauty brands so I´ve been using up all the bottles that I've had and am looking forward to switching to another night cream. I definitely have my eye on the Lush moisturisers!

In my teenage years I never really thought about my skincare routine and then I had the most basic one you can imagine - water, eye-makeup remover, more water, and a moisturiser. It´s obvious that I cannot be an expert on skincare but this routine has done some wonders for my usually acne-prone skin and I've gotten a lot of compliments on my skin clearing up lately. In the evening I very much focus on the acne-prone aspect of my skin to keep those nasty spots away from my skin. In contrast I focus my morning routine more around hydration to combat all the drying out the nighttime products do to get rid of any breakouts.

In the past few months I've defintiley also noticed that my skin - and therefore my makeup - often looks so much better than it has ever before and that's the best compliment I could give any skincare routine!

What is your skincare must-have? What do you focus on in your skincare routines?
