Christmas Market Wonders: Düsseldorf

On my hunt for my new favourite Christmas Market I made a stop in Düsseldorf on my drive home for Christmas. I've heard many good things about them and was also very excited to visit Düsseldorf again as I´d only been there once before (& that was on a school trip long ago!). After having a long relaxing morning organising my flat I made my way to the train station to have the most amazing start to my Christmas holidays.

I have to admit that I don't think Düsseldorf is a beautiful city and that was confirmed once I set foot outside the train station. However, I quickly noticed that once you get into the old town there are Christmas markets sprinkled everywhere. You know how I said that Mom and I missed little huts along the shopping street in Cologne? Well, Düsseldorf has exactly those! That meant the smell of Christmas was leaking everywhere throughout the city which was amazing!

Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience in Düsseldorf though. After being disappointed in Sephora where they were out of stock on a few items I really wanted to treat myself to I headed out to the Christmas Markets with a dampened mood. Then when I started to get into seeing the world through my camera lens my SD card decided to be full after only 17 pictures. That definitely took a lot of the fun out of the day for me. So I only decided to have a quick glance around the Christmas Markets near me before taking the next train home. Those Christmas markets were the Engelchenmarkt (market of angels), Sternchenmarkt (market of stars), and the Christmas Market on Flingert-Straße.

Due to my SD card being a bitch I only have some impressions for you from these Christmas markets and many of them were taken with my iPhone. Granted, iPhones have amazing cameras but they don't handle fairy lights well and are definitely not as much fun to work with! Side note: A little hut selling technical gadgets like SD cards would be a lifesaver on every Christmas Market!

Despite all my personal problems that day all three Christmas markets looked amazing and like a lot of fun! All of them were rather small but had really great and thematic decorations. Especially the Engelchenmarkt which was focused on warm lights and had angels on top of every hut. It really seemed magical! The Sternchenmarkt had colder lights but these really cool fairy light stars hanging in the air and also just generally lots of fairy lights! Plus, it featured a crystal palace which looked amazing! The christmas market in the Flinger Street was actually the huts lining the main shopping street and filling the air with the scent of Christmas!

I went home before my mood could ruin the Christmas Markets for me but I knot that they all made an amazing first impression on me. I´ll happily have a closer look next year (when I´ll format my SD card before taking the train!). Especially the Engelchenmarkt looked right up my street - comfortable, magical, homely, and kitschy in just the right amount!
