Travel Lipstick Picks

As you might know I´m constantly traveling back and forth between my own flat at uni and my parents´ house. While I´ve become really good at packing in the past 2.5 years you can bet that I´ll bring too much makeup with me every time. In all honesty, when I´m at my parents´ I very rarely ever wear makeup as I´m mostly working at home. For the first time in the past years I´ve limited myself for this semester break and only took four lipsticks with me ... or so I thought. It turns out that I actually took eight. So here are my 4 8 travel lipstick picks.

I can hear you ask "how did that even happen?!" and I honestly have no idea. Maybe I´m more like Dori than I ever thought and packed a choice of four twice. The most logical explanation to me right now is that the other four were just somewhere at the bottom of my bag. But then again, I don´t remember taking them out of there and putting them in my makeup drawer where I found them. Anyway, let´s see what selection I´ve brought with me.

Firstly, I always take my Kylie Matte Liquid Lipstick Set in Candy K whenever I travel. I constantly get compliments on how much this colour suits me and I am completely in love with the formula and the longevity of it. So this is an obvious choice. One of my newer lipstick loves is the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bettina. It´s such a classic nude that I can wear with almost anything but it has tiny glitter elements in it that give it that special look. In a similar way my beloved Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Peyote (Metallized) is a travel staple for me. It´s a pink nude that goes with so much and the metallized look is just something you don´t see everyday. On some days I just want to have a muted lip but still want to feel special and those two lipsticks are perfect for that.

Even thought spring is upon us now I can´t go without a dark matte lipstick. The newest addition to that category has been the New Look Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in Dark Rose. It´s the most gorgeous berry matte and just a little bit extravagant. Despite it´s drying formula I love it to pieces and just like to have it with me in case I just feel like wearing it. Another matte lipstick is my NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes. It´s a stunning pinky-red nude with one of my all time favourite matte formulas. These lip creams are just the best thing; they don´t crease, aren´t too drying and feature a range of gorgeous shades.

The one lipstick I know I have bought while being at my parents is the Kiko Smart Fusion Lipstick in 405. Again it´s a pinky-red nude but this time with a glossy and quite sheer finish. I love using it for a very natural look on my lips or for applying it over a matte lipstick to give it that glossy finish. Sadly, this doesn´t have the best longevity and is something I do have to take care of over the day (hence, why I´m usually a matte girl). The Nude Stix Lip and Cheek Pencil is again a nude tone but this time in a pinky-brown shade and a satin finish. I actually haven´t worn this much at all until now and I don´t know why. Every time I swatch it I love the consistency and colour and if you´re a lover of nude lips, this is definitely one for you!

Lastly, I´m kind of sure I must´ve found the YSL Rouge Volute Shine Lipstick in 47 in my bag. I haven´t seen this pinky sheer gloss-like lipstick in ages and I guess, it was lost in the bottom of my bag. Despite it´s gorgeous watermelon smell this is one that I don´t actually wear a lot. It´s another lipstick that you have to take care of over the day and I´m still not sure if the pink even suits me.

I´m pretty surprised by the lack of matte lipsticks in this selection. Maybe I´m not as much of a matte girl as I always think or I just made some bad decisions while packing. Even though I have doubled my selection of lipsticks I think I´ve worn lipstick in general maybe twice in the past month I´ve been at my parents´. Ooops. I definitely need to restrict myself to four lipsticks total next time no matter how hard the choice might be.

Do you also pack too much makeup when traveling? What is your one go-to lipstick for traveling?

  1. This is a great selection of lip products! I always take too much lipsticks when I am travelling, last summer I went to Greece for 5 days and I took with me probably 8-9 lipsticks, of course I didn't wore them all but a girls has to have options, right??? The NYX soft matte lip creams have the best formula! xx
