My Honest Daily Makeup Routine

I love makeup. Well, that should be obviously from this whole blog. But the truth is I don´t wear as much makeup as you´d expect from someone who is so obsessed with it. Honestly, I value my sleep way too much and I could never get up an hour early just to put more paint on my face. I´ve recently seen a few videos where bigger bloggers share their daily makeup and I was left in awe of how long they spent on it every morning. So to contradict those videos a bit I thought I´d show you the everyday makeup of a 20-year-old university student that only spends about 15 minutes in front of the mirror each morning.

The Face

To prep my skin I mostly use the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist as it absorbs super quickly but still moisturizes my skin for the whole day. I then skip primers completely as I´ve got no time for that. My foundation right now is the Maybelline Super Stay 24h Liquid Foundation and I pair this with the Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Perfecting Concealer. Both of these do their job just fine but I mainly just try to use them up so that I can try cruelty-free alternatives. As I like a matte face I then set everything with the Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder which has been a staple for years now (sadly it´s not cruelty-free either).

The Eyes

I like my natural eyebrows so I mostly just define them a bit more with the Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil and then set them with the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara. These were the first brow products I tried and I really enjoy both of them. I´m excited to try something cruelty-free though once they´re empty!
I only rarely use any eyeshadow on a normal day, most days I just can´t be bothered. However if I do like putting a bit of effort in I´ll surely grab my Tanya Burr Cosmetics Birthday Suit Eye Palette. I love all four neutral shades and they blend really easily! For my lashes I´m currently using a mascara trio. First I go in with my Benefit Rollerlash Mascara (which is nearly empty, yay!) to give my lashes a bit of a curl. Then I add a layer of the Essence Multi-Action Volume Mascara on my top lashes to add colour and volume. The only thing this mascara is failing at is separating my lashes. For my bottom lashes I then use the Maybelline The Rocket Volum Express Mascara in waterproof which is honestly smudge-proof!

The Cheeks & Lips

One of my go-to blushes in the past months has been the Kiko Multicolor Blush in 02 Blending Wave which leaves my cheeks with a nice, matte flush and looks very natural. As a highlight I adore my Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. It catches the light beautifully but still blends perfectly with my complexion! I´m really, really sad that Mac isn´t cruelty-free but luckily this bad boy will last me a long time! I leave out bronzer and contour as I still have no idea how they work and it takes me ages to do them.
Similarly to eyeshadow I need to be in a good mood to wear lipstick for everyday life. If I do I mostly grab something matte or very neutral so that I don´t have to touch it up or worry about it all the time. One of my favourites right now is the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bettina. I love the colour and the glitter in it. It´s so lightweight that I almost don´t notice it all day and it washes out very naturally so I don´t have to worry about touching it up.

There you have it, my honest daily makeup. As you can see I´m using a lot of products simply because I want to switch them out for cruelty-free alternatives. So if you know any to the products mentioned let me know! As for going cruelty-free in itself it´s been so much easier than I expected. Sometimes I´m very much tempted to buy new releases from the "forbidden" brands but that temptation fades after just a few minutes. Also I´m getting to know more and more amazing brands that are cruelty-free and that makes me so happy! And that´s just one more reason to spend money on high end products. So far I´ve not bought any products that aren´t cruelty free!

What do you consider a full face of makeup? How long does your makeup routine take you on a normal day?

  1. It usually takes me 10-15 minutes every day and I use only the basics and a quick hand haha!! I use a BB cream, some eyeshadow and mascara, blush and lipstick and I am ready! x

    1. That sounds like a quick routine as well. I can´t believe how some people can spend up to an hour on their makeup everyday. I can do that too when I´ve got time which isn´t most days sadly.

  2. I don't get how people spend so much time doing their makeup, either, I love doing a full face of makeup on the weekend but I can't be bothered to get up an hour earlier during the week to do my makeup haha. I love Tanya Burr eyeshadows, I got the Galaxy Eye Palette for Christmas and it's so good! A cruelty-free drugstore brand I can recommend is Catrice, I especially love their eyeliners. I wish Maybelline was cruelty-free, I find it hard to find good mascaras xx

    1. Exactly! I value sleep much more than my makeup (& I do love makeup a lot). I love Catrice but I´ve read on one cruelty-free brand list that they´re in the grey zone (aka they haven´t made a clear statement yet). So I´m kinda unsure. I used to get so many of their products when I was just starting out though & I loved them all!

  3. I absolutely love Soft & Gentle. I continue to buy new highlighters but always end up coming back to it. x

    1. Same over here. I buy new highlighters, use them for maybe a week and then just end up switching back to Soft & Gentle. I´m honestly kinda glad I bought it before I was too worried about being cruelty-free, haha.

  4. Lovin this real everyday makeup!! I never tried anything by Tanya Burr by have been hearing about that brand often. I also want to try the Rimmel powder since I've heard about it being pretty good too. I get oily skin and I'm always interested in powders!! I spend about 10 minutes on my makeup which I love doing but I also wish I didn't because to me it always leaves me rushing!! My full face is concealer, foundation, powder, shadow, liner, mascara, blush and a lip product. It's pretty much the same most days!
