5 Beauty Products That Disappointed Me

Zoella Wonder Hand Moisturizing Hand Cream, Primark Gold Rings, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish
I´ll admit it: I get so tempted by bloggers to buy beauty products I really don´t need. If one of my favourite bloggers recommends it there´a very high chance that product will land in my shopping basket some time soon. Guessing from how hyped some products get I guess we´re all a bit guilty of that. But in the end we´re all different and therefore the same product can work very differently for us. We´ve all bought a very hyped beauty product just to find out that it´s not as amazing as we thought it would be. Here are 5 beauty products that disappointed me.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

Oh, I was so excited to try this out. Charcoal masks seem to be THE thing right now and this one had amazing reviews as well. I´ll admit that I´ve only tried this mask three times so far and it seems to do my skin some good or at least the really big spots start to disappear after I´ve used it. But here´s the reason why I´ve only tried it so little: this mask hurts like hell! It does not only dry it also tightens so much that moving my face in any way is super painful. It seems to pull my whole skin into some direction and it hurts even when I don´t move a muscle. The only way I can wear it is with a twitter chat on because that´ll keep my mind occupied enough to forget about the pain. I´m sorry but I´d rather try another charcoal mask once this bottle is empty.

Clinique All About Eyes Eye Cream

I got this as a bonus to my order of some other Clinique product and thought maybe it would make my dark circles disappear. I´ll admit that I´ve tried way worse eye creams. This one really moisturises the skin around my eyes. Unfortunately, that´s all it does for me. It doesn´t reduce dark circles or puffy eyes as it promises. To be fair, I don´t have very dark circles or really puffy eyes so I can´t fully judge it but for me it has made no difference. I´m just looking for an eye cream that maybe does a bit more than just moisturise.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

I´ll make this very short as I´ve already published a whole post about how much I didn´t get on with gel  nail polishes. This is supposed to be one of the best ones and it costs a fortune compared to normal nail polishes. Yet it won´t last longer than four days on my nails before it splits everywhere and just looks generally bad. That´s so not worth the extra money and time it takes to apply it. I can get longer wear out of a normal nail polish that´s way more purse friendly.

Zoella Wonder Hand Moisturising Hand Cream

When Superdrug had all of Zoe´s original release on sale back in the summer I just had to get some to try out. I really enjoy many of her products but this hand cream just isn´t one of them. It smells wonderfully but there´s some weird reaction happening with my hands. Whenever I apply the cream my hands start sweating insanely and it won´t stop until I´ve basically gotten all of the hand cream off. Due to this it rather robs my skin of all it´s moisture which is not exactly what I wanted to use it for. Also it´s really annoying because I can´t touch anything for like an hour afterwards. However, my sister doesn´t have this reaction so this might be very special to my skin.

Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal Mask, Zoella Wonder Hand Moisturizing Hand Cream, NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick

NYX Lip Lingere Liquid Lipstick

This might be the disappointing product that makes me the saddest. I love nude matte lips and NYX offers a whole range of those with the Lip Lingeries. Yet they don´t seem to work for me. The colours are stunning but the formula feels very heavy on my lips, really draws into any creases and kind of splits after a few hours. Applying a second layer to cover it all up just makes everything so much worse. Also the edges smudge quite a bit without a lip liner. That´s not what I like liquid lipsticks for so much. Usually they´re not a hassle at all and I almost forget I´m wearing them. I feel so sad because this range would otherwise be so perfect for me!

Please don´t mistake this as a hateful comment on these products or that they´re really bad. They just didn´t work for me personally but might work really well for someone else. I just feel like it´s important to not just hype everything up. Sometimes we need to talk about disappointing products as well. You know, like you always check the 1-star review on amazing to see what might be bad about a product.

Did you ever have a similar experience? Or does one of these products work really well for you?

  1. I do the same with my favourite youtubers, every time I watch a video from Tati or KathleenLights, I keep notes on products I probably don't need but going to purchase anyway. I read not so good reviews on the Nyx the Lingerie Liquid lipstick but I haven't tried them myself but I have been loving the NYX soft matte lip creams, their formula is amazing! x

    1. The soft matte lip creams are absolutely amazing! That´s why I was so hopeful for the Lingerie ones! I can´t help but be tempted all the time, that´s why I have tons of makeup just lying around that I actually don´t really like. Oopsie.

    1. Thank you. I love many of her other products so I was disappointed that this hand creme just doesn´t seem to work with my skin.

    1. yeah, it´s honestly too bad! Just think of all the products I could´ve tried instead. I was so excited to try the Origins face mask & then immediately got scared after using it for the first time, haha. Now that I know what to expect I can use it sometimes, just not too often.

  4. I've got the Clinique eye cream as well and found (like you) that it doesn't do much rather than moisturise. I paid full price for it, around £25 and I'm more than disappointed with it.

    1. Oh no, I can totally understand that! I´m glad it was only an extra to my order, so I can´t be too mad about it. I really like the texture of it though but there´ll be another, even better eye cream around the corner!
