Welcome 2017!

two sparklers at night
It´s the start of a new year and I have the biggest cold. What an irony! I'm definitely having trouble realising that it´s already 2017. You know, the whole writing "2016" for the next two months. Yet I am so glad that 2016 is finally over. As you might have read in my 2016 Reflection, the past year definitely was hard for me and I´m so looking forward to what 2017 has in store for me. There´s hopefully (Fingers crossed!) some great memories to be made! So I say the warmest welcome to 2017!

Every year so far I´ve been on the "New Year, New Me" train but I´ve finally realised that it´s absolute bullshit for me. I have anxiety disorders, a weird personality and a lack of social skills. There´s just no way to just leave that behind and make a 180° turn over night. This is me and I have to accept myself the way I am. That´s one thing I´ll be working on this year!

But accepting myself doesn´t mean I can´t work to become a better person. I´m always very focused on the negative in my life and just overlook all the positive. This has led me to become very cynical, unsatisfied and generally unhappy most of the time. I really, really want to change this because it´ll probably also ease my anxiety a bit. Therefore, I´ve ordered The Happiness Planner for next year. Firstly, it is super beautiful and a blogger´s dream! Secondly, I really love the concept behind it. I really want to become more aware of the positive things in my life and this planner will hopefully help me achieve this.

Fireworks out of focus

Also for blog organisation I´ve recently stumbled upon Hannah´s Ultimate Blog Organisation Spreadsheet which I´ll try out in the next few months. It definitely looks very promising. That way I can just have easier access to my blog schedule! And for my lack of social skills I really want to continue working on it. This is definitely not going to be easy but I´ve made good steps forward in 2016 and I´m looking forward to making even bigger steps in 2017.

Also can you believe I´m getting my Bachelors degree this summer?! This is so crazy to think about. I feel like I´ve just started studying not like I´m almost done now! To celebrate us all getting our degrees my friend and I are also going on a major holiday in late summer which I´m really looking forward too. Starting a new chapter in my life afterwards is going to be so terrifying yet also so exciting. I´m really looking forward to moving back closer to my parents´ home.

Instead of setting myself some big resolutions or making a plan on how to remember this year like in 2014 (which has failed every single year so far) I´m just going with it all. I´ll have my Happiness Planner to look back on everything and I´ve given myself the three things I want to work on. I do think that´s enough. Who says I have to have specific goals for every year. Maybe I just want to be happy looking back at it as a whole. Also check out last year´s beginning of the year post as I´m still very proud of that. Fittingly, it´s called Being Myself.

I´m now going to head back into bed & sleep this stupid cold off so that I can start afresh once I´m back at uni. I hope you all had a good start into this new year and that you´ll have a fabulous one!

What are you looking forward to in 2017?

P.S. sorry for those chatty posts lately that had no other goal than to just talk a bit about my life. Normal posts will resume on Wednesday ;)

  1. I hope you'll feel better soon! And in the end, accepting ourselves is the most important thing and the first step towards getting better. I have a very similar goal for myself and you're right, the whole new year new me thing does not really work - it is better to take one step at a time and work with 'what you've got'. 2016 wasn't great for me either and I'm planning on making 2017 a whole lot better. I'm looking forward to my summer break - we are going to Greece and I'm planning to volunteer for a mental health organisation xx

  2. Thank you for reminding me this whole happiness planner thing. I forgot to look for my mint journal and I'm planning to use it to list down the things that made me happy weekly. Congratulations on that degree, dear! I'm proud of you even though I'm still a new reader here but I always feel proud for people accomplishing their goals. Have fun on that getaway with your friend. Yay! Happy new year and cheers to a better 2017! :)

  7. YAY to a bachelor's degree. That's great!!! I have a Word doc for my blog organization. I just have the date and the planned topic next to it. I try to write a month ahead, but sometimes I get behind!

  8. The Happiness Planner sounds amazing! I have settled on a planner simply called 'Focus' for this year which I think is very fitting. Excited for you to get that degree and the getaway afterwards! I remembered when I took my own trip after graduating! It was all fun. Happy 2017!
