Beauty Spending Ban Update - 3 Months

Sleek Solstice Highliting Palette, Zoella WonderCream, Benefit Rollerlash Mascara, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick
Guess what, another two months of my beauty spending ban have just gone by. In my last update after one month I was talking about how fast it had gone by and how little I had struggled. Since then quite a few things have changed (e.g. I´ve made the decision to go cruelty-free). Has it stayed as easy for me not to buy any beauty products or have Christmas and the sales made it all worse?

Firstly, december started really good with my advent calendar (which was so good!!).  Also I was quite busy with the data collection for my bachelor thesis. That was so exciting! It was surprisingly easy to resist buying beauty products while shopping for presents too. Maybe that was a good outlet for my spending desires. However, I did not save a lot of money. I spent a lot on presents for my family and also on clothes for myself (thanks, Black Friday sales!). At least the spending-too-much-on-food trend from November hasn´t kept up.

January started quite good as well. My mental health has taken quite a hit though. My anxiety has been back on and off for the past four weeks. As bad as it sounds that has made not buying any beauty products easier because I didn´t feel like going shopping. I must admit I did buy a few new lipsticks after New Year´s. To be fair though, I got a few vouchers for Christmas. Also now the saving has finally kicked in thanks to also starting my job!

What I bought:

4 new Lipsticks (ca. €50) which you can see in my Winter Lipstick Haul
1 bottle of dry shampoo (€1,75)
2 The Body Shop Skincare items (€23)

Products I used up:

bottle of dry shampoo
The Body Shop Camimile Cleansing Butter
Bebe Young Care Cleanser & Eye Makeup Remover
Maybelline Eye Makeup Reover Waterproof
Soap & Glory Clean On Me Shower Gel

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette, Kiko Eyeshadow, Benefit Rollerlash Mascara, Urban Decay Naked Flushed Basics, Primark Bombshell Perfume, zoella Wondercream, Essence lipstick

Reasons why I´ve been tempted:

sales
being out a lot more in December
Christmas wish list/gift guide posts
ads on tv

Reasons why I´ve resisted:

constantly new products in advent calendar
going cruelty-free and being more conscious of my purchases
bad mental health

I´m actually really proud of myself for doing this. I might not have saved the biggest amount of money (yet) and I haven´t completely stopped buying beauty products but considering how much I usually buy this is so good!! I now often go into drugstores and come out with only the things I wanted to buy. I´ve found myself experimenting more with my existing makeup collection and less drawn to displays in drugstores. Also this goes along with my decision to go cruelty-free as not many drugstore brands here are cruelty-free.

I´m definitely continuing this spending ban especially as I still have so many products that I don´t necessarily need. I might not be as strict anymore though as I also want to try and find cruelty-free alternatives to products I already own. Let me know if you´d like me to continue doing these updates and in which frequency you´d like to read them.

What has been your favourite purchase in the past two months?

  1. Well done for sticking to your spending ban! And it's amazing that you went cruelty-free, there are so many good brands out there that don't test on animals. And I know it can be hard to find good cruelty-free drugstore makeup - when I'm at home I mostly buy Nyx and Catrice (both cruelty-free) and I sometimes buy bareMinerals which is a bit more pricey but still affordable. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I hope things will get better for you soon! I haven't purchased any makeup during the past two months but I got the UD setting spray for Christmas, it's so good. xx

    1. Thank you lovely! It´s a shame that most drugstore brand still test on animals but on the other hand it has helped in this spending ban, haha. I definitely love NYX though so I´ve been eyeing a lot of their products recently!
Thank you, I´m feeling a lot better lately. Somehow my psyche reacts really, really sensitive when I´m nervous right now. I love the UD setting spray! It´s been a lifesaver over the last summer!

  2. Well done!!! Sales and ads are always tempting for me, I cannot say no to a good deal. If you think about it, all the money we spend in products we don't need could be spent to something more important, like a trip or summer holidays :)

    1. Thank you! Yes, that´s exactly what I´m planning. I´m saving up a lot of money now with my job too & I do hope to spend it all on more experiences (as well as maybe a few beauty products!).

    1. Thank you & good luck with your spending ban! I don´t think I could really do a general spending ban. Sometimes I do need a bit of retail therapy ;)

  4. Well done, I tried this last year and it was so hard, but it made me realised sometimes I buy things just because I can rather than because I need it or really want it!! I've been loving the clothes I've been buying as I've lost some weight recently :) xx
