Beauty Spending Ban

I´ve never actually seen the film Shopaholic but with my behaviour lately I could easily play the main character. The amount of money I spent on beauty products (especially makeup) has gotten ridiculous. Even though I just got a job and therefore will not have to worry about money this just can´t go on the same way. I honestly own enough beauty products for at least three lives but instead of using products I already own I keep buying more and more. This. Has. To. Stop!

So about a week ago I pretty spontaneously decided to just go on a beauty spending ban at least for the rest of the year. The money I usually spent on beauty will be way better invested in high-quality clothes or Christmas gifts for the people I love. I will also put a fraction of this money into my savings account. Future me will definitely thank current me!

I´ve come up with a few short rules:
1. I can´t buy any beauty products (obviously). That includes all products meant to enhance my outer beauty.
2. I can try out new DIYs if all I need to buy are medical/health-related products (e.g. charcoal, vitamins, etc.). I'm allowed to buy these products anyway.
3. Gifts are acceptable. Both receiving them (because refusing would be rude) and buying beauty products for other people.
4. The only exception to this rule is if I run out of a certain kind of product that I need for my daily life (e.g. skincare, toothpaste, shower gel).
5. This is mostly a beauty-centered spending ban but I should definitely give every other purchase a good thought before I walk up to the register (this includes unnecessary trips to Ikea!).

This whole spending is not necessarily about saving a ton of money. My savings account isn´t short of that. This is more about using the products I already own instead of buying new ones. That money can be invested better into building a new, higher quality wardrobe, experiences and people.

I honestly don´t know how long this spending ban will go on. My plan is to at least do it until the end of the year. Maybe I can go longer if all of this goes well. I´ve also already ordered a beauty adventcalender before I decided to go on this spending ban, so December will probably be a bit "too easy". That´s why I´m thinking about carrying this on into the new year. Honestly, I want to do continue this spending ban as long as I can.

I´ll definitely try to do write up some update posts during this time. If you´re really interested, you can also follow me on Twitter where I´ll definitely moan about it a few times!

    1. Thank you. So far it´s been quite easy although I doubt it will stay that way. Also I got my advent calendar this week, so getting an exciting package has also kept me busy, haha.

    1. Haha, thank you. Yes, my beauty spending got really out of control in the past few months. Especially with me being in Cologne, I was so close to all the high end brands & I just couldn´t stop myself. Oh, don´t get me started on Sephora Christmas gift sets. This is the one time I feel good about not living near a Sephora.

  3. Wow, amazing resolution to make!! (I say this because I went to buy 1 lipstick the other day and ended up buying 4... doh >.< )
Best of luck with it - it's so lovely that you'll be reinvesting the money into Christmas gifts for loved ones <3

    1. Thank you. Honestly, that´s what happens every time with me. I went into the drugstore today to get some lady things & really had to restrain myself from buying another lipstick. It´s not like I don´t have enough dark red lipsticks already.

  4. An entire year is crazy to me! I definitely have the same problem but I've decided to take it month by month and not beat myself up too much if I slip a tiny bit. However, I've definitely been feeling like I've been overspending a bit and agree... it has to stop haha

    1. Oh yes, a full year would be crazy. I´m trying it until the end of the year first & then maybe I´ll go another month or two depending on how I´m feeling about it all. Yes, slipping up will be inevitable. I will try to not beat myself up as well.
