The Notebook

Don´t worry.  I am not reviewing the film or the book called The Notebook. I really don´t want to go down that dark hole of tears again. Instead, I am talking about a notebook that I recently purchased and am in love with. I love notebooks but I kind of forget about actually writing in them most of the time. That´s different with this one. This one also has a special purpose in my life and has made my life a bit easier lately.

This notebook is by Paperblanks and the design is called Honeysuckle Midi. It´s an A6 notebook with lined paper. One thing I find amazing is that Paperblanks is that they use acid-free, sustainable forest paper in all their notebooks. Also they have symthe-sew binding and a very round spine which is great for me because I hate breaking spines and with this one you can´t really break it. An elastic keeps my notebook closed but is also easy to open at any time. I love the integrated bookmark because it´s really helpful to find the page you´re currently writing on. Sadly, the red color of the bookmark doesn´t really fit the design on the outside.

The design is absolutely gorgeous. I´ve seen Paperblanks notebooks around for years and they all have gorgeous designs. This one with its gold flowers and glitter particles is especially beautiful. I immediately fell in love. Unfortunately,  I found that some glitter is already transferring to my hands although it´s not as much as I thought it would be. The notebook does have a memento pouch on the backside to keep some papers in - I just lost the photo that showed that. I don´t think you could store much inside there unless you don´t care if the notebook stands open but I´m not really going to use that anyway.

I´ve been looking for the perfect notebook for quite a while now because I wanted to get some thoughts out of my head. I am a worryful person and always have been and sometimes certain thoughts and worries just don´t leave me alone. I´ve spent nights lying awake because of this. My plan was to always write such thought down. That´s why I searched a long time and spent a bit more money on a notebook. This one is so pretty that it´s "worth" my thoughts in some twisted way - if you understand what I mean.

Since I started using it I´ve found sleep so much easier. I usually write in it and then watch a Youtube video or two and then can go to sleep without worrying about that thought again. Writing my thoughts down makes them more prominent in my head but when I distract myself afterwards they just fade away. It´s like the Pensieve in Harry Potter where they pull memories from their heads down into a liquid. I am pulling my thoughts from my head into the notebook and they just disappear for a while. I also can be more rational when I write thoughts down which is very helpful when I worry too much.

I would suggest this technique for everyone who has trouble sleeping or who worries too much. You´ll immediately see an improvement. It´s no fix forever but it´ll work for the night and that´s all I need. You also don´t have to write a novel everyday. A few sentences are enough or even nothing if you´ve got nothing to worry about. If you´re like me and you often forget to use notebooks, go and get one from Paperblanks. Because they are beautiful you can have them laid out in your room and always be reminded to write in them.

If you´re just looking for a notebook, I would always suggest getting one from Paperblanks. They´re designs are gorgeous and they´re definitely worth the money. I think these are the kinds of notebooks that you can sit with in a park and just scribble in.

  1. I own a lot of notebook that I haven't written anything in, but writing your thoughts down can be very therapeutic.

    1. Tell me about it. I have never slept better. I also have a stash of unused notebooks. I need to use them more for my to-do lists.

    1. That´s another good reason to never use a notebook. Although it´s kind of their purpose to be used. I do struggle with this as well.
