Trying Out Primark Cosmetics

As a student I can totally relate to everyone who wants to use make up but is on a budget. At the same time I don´t want to use bad products though. Naturally I was sceptic at first when I found out that Primark was releasing a make up range. Normally, make up this cheap isn´t a bargain but a disappointment. But when I went into Primark recently, my curiosity got the better of me and I bought a few products to try out.

The first thing I bought was a blusher that retails for £2.50. I really love the packaging of this. It looks really high end with the reflecting gold and the black writing. I think you get quite a lot of product for a blush. It´s bigger than most of the blushes I own. That also means that the mirror on the top half of the packaging is bigger than usual which makes applying this on the go so much easier. The only downside to this is that it´s really hard to open and that leads to some of the gold being scraped off. Also the top half seems quite lose. It can only stand up in two positions.

I can´t really tell what the color is named as there´s no way to look it up but it´s a browny peach without shimmer. I think it´s a gorgeous color, perfect for the darker months. The pigmentation of this product is not to be underestimated. It´s very highly pigmented and you have to be careful when you apply it. I made that mistake the first try and looked like a clown. The color is really blendable and does look very natural on my skin. The blush stays on all day without going patchy or clinging to dry spots. It has even survived full workouts at the end of the day. At the same time it´s easy to wash off in the evenings. Overall, I am super impressed with this blush.

The other thing I bought were two lipliners, each for £1. The packaging is really classic and modest. The pencils are black with gold writing on it. I do have noticed that the two I bought have different writing on them which is kind of weird. I don´t know if Primark changed the packaging recently. I love the colored caps and ends that help you to choose a color in an instant. I do have to be honest and say that I don´t own lipsticks that go with the colors. I bought them with the intention to use them on the full lips, so I can´t say anything about them in their intended use.

The first thing I noticed when I got home with those was how different the actual colors are from the ones on the cap. I bought 01 which looks like a browny pink on the cap but is actually more of a brownish nude and 08 which looks like a peachy nude on the cap but is actually a light orange tone. I really dislike this as I fell in love with the colors on the caps. They feel really soft while applying them though which is great for the use on lips but also means that they have to be sharpened quite often. I´ve found that they feel amazingly creamy for a short while but as they are matte colors they dry out my lips after a short time of wearing them. I can "save" my lips by using my go-to lip balm after wearing them. I also tried using them on top of a lip balm to keep my lips soft but then they were just smudging everywhere.

I was surprised to find that the staying power of the lipliners is amazing. I can go about 4-5 hours with light snacking and drinking without ever re-applying them. When I look at my glass after drinking, it always looks like a lot of color has come off but the look in the mirror always proves me wrong. A lot of the color stays on my lips even after I´ve eaten a full meal. They do start to look patchy afterwards though, so I always would re-apply after a meal. The only thing that really bothers me is that the lipliners really highlight dry patches and the natural creases on your lips. I know a lot of matte lip products do that but I tend to use others that don´t.

Overall, I am really impressed with both products. Especially since I expected so less of them because of their price. If you can work your way around slight issues, both products are perfect for buying make up on a budget. I have included all of them in my go-to staple of make up by now. I would suggest everyone to give them a try at least. In the end, you don´t really loose much money if they don´t suit your expectations although they probably will.

  1. Overall, I'm really impressed with these products as well. The color pigmentation is fantastic for such cheap prices. I wouldn't mind the slight color variation from the cap if it works well. :]

    1. You´re right. The color variation itself doesn´t bother me that much but the color 08 would really suit me in the cap color but doesn´t suit me that much in the actual color which is kind of annoying for me. But that won´t really stop me from wearing them.

  5. Great review - to be honest I think even a lot of high end lipliners dry out lips (I've got one from Sisley that I love but have the same problem) so these seem to be quite the bargain! It is annoying when products differ from the colour on the packaging though, grrrr.
